The Committee thinks it would be a good idea for the Club to become a corporation. At the moment, we are an unincorporated association which is basically a group of people with a common purpose but no separate legal identity. There are advantages and disadvantages to incorporation and we have tried to explain them simply in a Note and a sheet of Frequently Asked Questions which can be found in the members only area under the incorporation section. Essentially we think that corporate status will better suit us for the modern world and avoid the perils of personal liability both for Committee members and, more remotely, members as a whole.
We would be pleased to hear what the members think about the idea. We plan to consult further with a view to presenting the new constitution with appropriate resolutions to the AGM in November.
